Come and see us at the Quality Matters Conference 16th June 2015 UWE

The 12th Annual Conference will be held on Tuesday 16th June 2015 at UWE (University of West of England) Conference and Exhibition Centre Filton Road, Stoke Gifford, Bristol BS34

The Quality Matters conference will look at the changes to learning and development, the new Care Certificate and other workforce changes that have taken place. It will also look at the CQC inspection process and how this is helping care providers to provide an improved and quality service. The focus on learning, development, assessment and observation of all staff in a care service is paramount when providing a quality service.

Workshops will focus on aspects of ensuring that you can and do provide a quality service.

Varsity Training will be on stand 8 and it would be great to say hello.  We’ll have full details on all of the services we offer and be happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Grey Matter Group #cis_assessment

Eddie from The Grey Matter Group spoke in more detail about the Care Certificate highlighting the relationship with future CQC inspection.  (besides having some very cool sideburns!)   He made good points about the responsibility individuals that may be signing off the certificate have and how rigorous the assessment of practice would need to be.  He pointed out that achievement of the Care Cert should be seen as part of a journey.  The Grey Matter Group have a range of resources and a specific Care Certificate tool which you can look at in detail on the website link.

How do you know that their Care Certificate is worth the paper it’s printed on? You don’t! You need to check.

Care Cert & SIRONA

Karen from SIRONA highlighted the importance of front loading new staff members’ inductions to allow for the early completion of ‘line of sight’ activities.  She had also designed a portfolio that could be used to collect evidence for the Care Certificate and said she will make it freely available to members of the Network. A new post within the NHS has also been created to ensure consistency of quality in relation to the certificate across a range of providers, which seems a very good idea.

Aquila Network Meeting

Very interesting talk from Lindsey today from Skills for Care in relation to the Care Act.  The Care Act 2014 is due to come into force in a week or so and it was great to have the opportunity to look at some of the potential impacts.  The Act’s focus on the wellbeing of the individual was of particular interest to me as a training provider as this is a strong theme in many of the taught sessions – Person centred practice and holistic approaches to care at the centre of it all!

Varsity Training at GB Care Show

Varsity Training is pleased to announce that it will be at the Great British Care Show regional event in June, with the South West Care Show taking place on Thursday 11 June in Bath. Supported by the Department of Health, the Great British Care Show brings together people from across the care industry, and features presentations from industry experts, innovative product demonstrations, and Q&A sessions covering current issues in care and the future of the market.
